The St. Louis Cardinals must be on some kind of high after that huge 13 inning win over the Mets because losing a game they led 7-3 late would have been devastating considering the fact that they scored 6 runs off Johan Santana in the very first inning, more than he had allowed the entire month of July combined. Having said that, there is no rest for the wicked and the Cardinals have to be right back out there for the earliest game being played on Wednesday. Blake Hawksworth has only made 7 career MLB starts and the team is 3-4 in those games (all played in 2010). He has an ERA of 5.23 and a WHIP of 1.81 on the season which means opposing teams are going to have base runners. Sure the Cardinals have provided the youngster with tons of run support lately because they are 2-1 in his last three starts but he has allowed 24 base hits in only 15.2 innings pitched with an ERA of 6.32 and a WHIP of 2.11 in those three starts. Hawksworth has an issue keeping the ball down and he has allowed 6 Home Runs in only five road starts this season. The run support has been what keeps Hawksworth around since his call up to the big leagues but again it only takes one opposing pitcher to put an end to that. He has allowed 9 ER's and 17 hits in his last two starts combining for 10.1 innings of work. I'm fading.
The series is on the line in this one and after last night's near come from behind win over the Cardinals, the Mets are not holding out hope. At least the comeback had guys pumped up and guys yelling at each other to get things going. Keep in mind that the Mets won the first game of this series 8-2 and despite the batting issues they have had in recent weeks, they seem to be coming out of that shell and have now scored 15 runs in the last two games. Michael Pelfrey is on the mound for the Mets and I think this is a good spot for him to bounce back from some horrific outings. In his last three starts he has allowed 12 ER's in only 10.1 innings pitched, the team is 0-3, his ERA is 10.45 and his WHIP is 3.10 in those three starts. It just can't get worse for Pelfrey right now. On that note, in his 11 home starts this season the Mets are 8-3, Pelfrey is 6-2 in those games and he has an ERA of 3.19 and a WHIP of 1.43. The bottom line is that regardless of his recent struggles on the mound, the Mets like to play for Pelfrey and they are 13-7 in the 20 starts he has now made in 2010. With so much on the line in this one I will take the home team who have the better bullpen overall.
These are two tired teams, the game last night finished about 12 hours ago and now they are right back at it. This will come down to starting pitching and bullpens. Advantage the Mets for the simple fact that Blake Hawksworth has only 7 career MLB starts compared to 100 career starts for Mike Pelfrey, who obviously knows what is needed of him in this game. Pelfrey has made two career starts against the Cardinals, he is 2-0 in those starts with an ERA of 1.20, a WHIP of 1.13 and the Cardinals have batted only .255 against him in those starts. Blake Hawksworth has pitched 6.2 career innings of relief against the Mets and he has yet to allow a run but this is an early game, it's on the road and there is a lot on the line. St. Louis has been pounding away on right handed starters but they have won only 3 of their last 12 as an underdog. The Cardinals are also 3-13 in their last 16 games as a road underdog and they are 3-0 overall in their last three games as an underdog. What I like about the Mets is that they can always turn to Pelfrey when the rough times hit. The Mets are 8-1 when Michael Pelfrey pitches following a team loss the game before and they are 10-2 in Pelfrey's last 12 starts versus NL Central opponents. The Mets have won 8 of his last 11 home starts and again the Cardinals are a team he has dominated in the past. DJ Reyburn is a homer Home Plate Umpire as the home team is 4-1 in his last five games and despite the win yesterday, St. Louis are still 1-4 in their last five trips to New York City. Mets for me.
Trend of the Game: NY Mets are 8-1 in Michael Pelfrey's last nine starts when the team is coming off a loss the game before.

I think Molde won't cause many problems for Stuttgart in this one i think. The Germans showed in the last years' qualifing rounds good football and quality results. Molde are simply not in shape. Despite the advantage for the Norway side to play this match when their domestic league is well underway they have won only once in 8 matches and this weekend they lost even 1-2 at home to not so good playing Start.Not to mention that they were very lucky to pass Latvians Jelgava. They won 1-0 at home but were down 1-2 away and Jelagava had some nice chances to put in a 3rd one but coudln't convert.Stuttgart is reinforced with Niedermeier,Harnik and Molinaro. At first glance not so big transfers bt the team will bemore offencively oriented. Marica have shown good form from the beginning of the seasons and he hit 2 to Bern from Swiss in a friendly. The Germans may go with this squad : Ulreich - Celozzi - Niedermeier - Gentner - Molinaro - Träsch - Kuzmanovic - Rudy - Gebhart - Marica - Harnik. I simply think this will betoo much for the Norwegian side and Stuttgart will take this.

The Reds are sending Travis Wood to the mound for the 6th time in 2010 which would also be the 6th time in his career. So far they are 3-2 when he is on the mound and he has been a rather nice surprise to the team. Wood is used to the road where he has made four starts now and despite going 0-0 in those four starts with an ERA of 3.04 and a WHIP of 0.86, the Reds have found a way to win and are 3-1 in those games. Pitching during the day does not seem to be a problem for him as he's done it twice now allowing only 3 ER's in 13.0 innings on the mound. Wood is coming off the worst outing of his career where he allowed 4 ER's but still went 6.0 innings and the Reds won 6-4 in Houston last week. Other than that he has not allowed more than 3 ER's in any of his last nine starts (MLB and AAA) and I don't see this game being a problem. Cincinnati is one of the best teams in baseball and there is no reason to ignore that in a game like this. Wood already beat the Mets in New York, the Cubs in Chicago, the Astros in Houston, lost 1-0 in Philadelphia so beating Milwaukee should be a cakewalk.
On the other side of the mound is Christopher Narveson who has been horrendous in his last three starts allowing 16 ER's in only 15.1 innings pitched with an ERA of 9.39 and a WHIP of 1.57 in those games despite the team supporting him and going 2-1 anyways. Having said that, Narveson has to face a hot Reds lineup that pounded away at the Brewers ace yesterday and the Brewers are 2-5 this season in the seven starts made by Narveson during the day time where his WHIP and ERA are not much better than the last three games. In his last two home starts against Washington and San Francisco, Narverson has allowed 14 ER's and has managed to pitch only 9.1 innings combined in those two games while allowing 15 hits and allowing 5 Home Runs, clearly a bad sign against one of the top Home Run hitting teams in baseball the Cincinnati Reds. The irony is that Narverson pitched well in all three home starts against AL opponents in recent months but NL teams have pounded away on him.
This is the first time facing their opponent for both pitchers so things could get interesting. This is an interesting spot for the Reds because they are only 1-4 in their last five games versus left handed starters and they have struggled to win Game 3 of most series they have played in 2010. It's also tough to go against Milwaukee because they have won 7 of their last 8 home games but the streak was broken yesterday and those wins came against teams that are not going to come close to even sniffing the playoffs. The Brewers are actually 1-5 in their last six home games versus a team with a winning record on the season and they are 1-4 in Chris Narveson's last five starts versus NL Central opponents which has been a problem for him and the team. Cincinnati comes into this game 4-1 in their last five games played here, they are 7-1 in their last eight games against Milwaukee, a team they have owned, and the Road Team is 4-1 the last five times Home Plate Umpire Mike DiMuro has been behind home plate. Reds win.
Trend of the Game: Milwaukee is 1-5 in their last six home games versus a team with a winning record.

Litex managed to eliminae Rudar with an ease in the 2nd preliminary round of the CL,in the 3rd one they will face Slovak's Zilina. Zilina managed to eliminate Malta's Birkirkara with an 0-1 loss away and than 3-0 home win.
Other Bulgarian team Levski Sofia had Zilina as opoonent few years back and then the Bulgarians made 1-1 draw away onl to fall 0-1 at home and therefore were eliminated.
Litex have to eliminate Zilina to go into the Playoffs for the CL groups,than even if Litex fall they will continue their European matches in the groups of Europa League.
From the managment of Litex said that they will put small prces on the tickets and the stadium is expected to packed up with orange fans. In general i don't think the Angel Chervenkov's players will have trouble winning this at home,maybe in the return leg will be a bigger test.

The Boston Red Sox continue to struggle with Victor Martinez, Dustin Pedroia, Jacoby Ellsbury, Mike Lowell and Jason Varitek out of the lineup and that's not a surprise at all. The Red Sox are coming off a 2-2 series tie with the Seattle Mariners losing the last two of the series on the weekend as they now fly into Los Angeles to take on a team that has struggled just as much as them. The Sox are 4-6 in their last 10 games since the All-Star Break and they are only 25-24 away from home this season. The came out of the break and lost a home series against Texas, they then went to Oakland and lost a series there and then went to Seattle and managed a series tie. On the mound tonight is Clay Buchholz who is 10-5 on the season (the team is 11-5 when he is on the mound) but who has somewhat struggled with control and command in his last three starts allowing 10 hits in only 11.2 innings of work with an ERA of 3.86 in those games and a WHIP of 1.46. Boston is hitting only .232 in their last 10 games and batting only .218 agianst right handed pitchers in those games. Buchholz was rocked in his first start back from injury as the Athletics beat him up for 5 ER's in 4.0 innings pitched in a 6-4 loss in that series. Before the injury Buchholz had been the Red Sox best pitcher but it's going to take him a bit of time to get his act together and the Angels are a team that he has always had problems with in his career. The Red Sox can't hit lately and I don't see that changing until they head back home.
The Los Angeles Angels have their fans a bit worried right now because they are only 52-49, one of their worst records at this point in the season in quite some time and they have now lost four of their last five games overall. Much like the Red Sox the Angels have struggled to put together a valid effort for a full nine innings and it has cost them in the standings. Having said that, unlike the Red Sox, the Angels are actually hitting the ball as they are batting .284 over the course of the last 10 games and they have managed to hit right handed pitchers .317 in those 10 games. The Angels are finally back home after losing three of four in a crucial series with the Texas Rangers this week and it's now or never in terms of winning. They looked good coming out of the All-Star Break winning three of four at home against Seattle and it's no secret they prefer playing at home and should put things back together quite easily in this setting. Dan Haren makes his debut tonight after being acquired in a trade with Arizona yesterday and if that wasn't a big boost for this team I don't know what is. Haren is no stranger to the Red Sox because he used to play for Oakland and I can tell you he won his last two starts against these guys as an Oakland Athletic playing at home. Haren has three quality starts in the month of July pitching for Arizona and his last five home starts for the D-Backs were quality starts that saw the team go 2-3 which shows you how much run support Haren actually lacked playing for the horrendous Diamondbacks. The Red Sox batters are going to be whiffing quite a bit tonight because Haren throws some hard stuff and has 16 strikeouts in his last two starts for Arizona. I think he makes a grand debut for the Angels and gets them back on track in their run for the playoffs.
Under most circumstances this would be an outstanding pitching matchup and it still might be a pretty good one but Clay Buchholz got rocked in his last start, first since back from injury, and his career numbers against the Angels are horrendous. The Red Sox youngster has made four career starts against the Angels and he is 2-2 in those starts with an ERA of 6.35, a WHIP of 1.81 and the Angels have hit .326 in those games against him. Haren has made 7 career starts against the Red Sox and he is 2-4 in those starts but has an ERA of 3.14, a WHIP of 1.14 and the Red Sox have hit .230 in those games. It's obvious that most of his losses were because of lack of run support and that probably won't be a problem tonight for Haren in his Angels debut. Boston comes into this game 1-4 in their last five games versus right handed starters, they are 1-5 in their last six games as a road underdog and they are 1-7 in their last eight games versus a team with a winning record on the season. In Clay Buchholz's last 7 starts versus AL West opponents, the Red Sox are 1-6 and that's a good indication of how badly he has struggled against these teams. The Angels are 12-4 in their last 16 home games versus a right handed starter and they are 4-0 in their last four home games against the Red Sox. I know this looks like a tight game but the Angels are hitting much better than the Red Sox right now and I have to back them in Haren's debut.

The Colorado Rockies have been a horrendous road team all season long and I'm guessing when all is said and done it will be a big reason why they either miss the playoffs or barely make it in. They are 20-30 on the road in 2010 and have now lost the first two games of this series with the Phillies. Since the All-Star Break the Rockies are only 2-7, losing two of three in Cincinnati and then losing three of four in Florida before losing the first two in this series and things are not going well for a team that looked like it was built for a strong run in the second half. Jeff Francis is on the mound today for the Rockies, who have scored only 2 runs all series. Colorado is batting a pathetic .204 in their last 10 games, their starting staff has an ERA of 5.16 in those games and overall on the road this season, the Rockies are batting only .228 (not going to cut it). Francis is 1-0 in his last three starts and the team is 2-1 in those starts but he has an ERA of 4.50 and a WHIP of 1.38 as all three games have been pretty high scoring. Having said that, Francis has had all sorts of problems in day time starts where his ERA is 4.45 and his WHIP 1.55 but the offense has bailed him out on many occasions. With the way the offense has been hitting this series and since the All-Star Break, I don't think Francis will be so lucky this time around.
The Philadelphia Phillies are in a bit of a panic mode right now and that prompted the firing of their hitting coach earlier this week. Well it seems to have boosted the offense because since he got fired the Phillies are 2-0 and they have scored 16 runs in those two games compared to only 27 runs in the other eight games they played since the All-Star Break (they were 2-6 since the Break heading into this series). A series sweep today would have the Philadelphia faithful hushing up a little bit and there would be renewed hope that the Phillies can once again win the Championship. They are 27-17 at home this season, their starting pitching has been much better at home than on the road and the same can be said about their bullpen. JA Happ is making his third start of 2010 and so far the team is 1-1 when he is on the mound. He has not allowed a single Earned Run in his two starts and posted a WHIP of 1.65 so it's obvious that Happ has been in some jams but eventually found a way out of them on his own. He had 17 strikeouts in his last three starts in AAA and has not pitched in the Major Leagues since early April where he shutout both the Houston Astros and Washington Nationals but the bullpen allowed 7 runs in the Washington game and the Phillies lost. Happ has been good enough in the Minors to earn another shot and he does have 14 career Major League wins and was 12-4 last year in 14 starts for the Phillies. Happ has the experience and I don't see the struggling Rockies lineup being a problem for him at home.
I'm not really sure what happened to Jeff Francis but something tells me he needs to get out of Colorado to have any kind of success in the Major Leagues. He won 17 games in 34 starts in 2007 but has won only 7 games since in 36 starts since and it's obvious he is not the pitcher he once was. Francis has made 4 career starts against Philadelphia and gone 1-1 in those starts but has an ERA of 7.59, a WHIP of 1.88 and the Phillies have batted .330 against him in those four starts. We all know the Phillies have been pounding the ball this series so Francis and Rockies backers should be concerned. JA Happ has made one career home start against Colorado and it came at home last August. He pitched a complete game four hit shutout with 10 strikeouts and was absolutely lights out. Same can't be said about his outing against the Rockies in the playoffs a few months later in Colorado but Happ does have experience shutting down this lineup. Colorado comes into this game 1-5 in their last six games as an underdog, they are only 1-6 in Jeff Francis' last seven games in Game 3 of a series and they are 1-5 in their last six games played in Philadelphia. Form indicates WB ~ 70%, Freo ~ 30%. Value on Freo @ 3.54. Freo are not going to fare well having Barlow out for the rest of the season. Still have to remember that Freo are a very good side and have many options one of whom is the best ruckman in the league.
Bulldogs are due for a loss and I think Dockers can snap out of their rut and pull off an upset. Big value on the +21.5 spread offered.
