| | What I love about SI and it's brother/sis sight TI is everyone is so pre-occupied talking and making their points that no one listens. I never said CC wasn't a good pitcher, useful, had great career. I said at this point in time that he was not still a top 5 ML pitcher but possible so if you limit to the AL. You give me any set of criteria you want and I'll prove this point. We'r... more e not going to go back 3, 5, 10 years b/c I said currently- so that means right now as I stated. And for all those are sure, I'll tell you right now that we can make a wager and at the end of the season CC will not be any higher than 7th and with odds I'll even say out of the top 10.

| | @Passenger: You raise a good point though, I know definitely it takes some players a while with their slow starts. @zoocorp: About Verlander, yeah that's one I definitely feel you missed, especially if you appreciate value of eating up innings at the very least. Admittedly I only started watching baseball mid last year, so I'm not claiming to be an expert here, but still good poi... more nts from both of you. That's why I'm looking to see how this "slow start" business rolls for Teixeira especially, very curious to see how it plays out. |

| | Zoocorp, clearly you haven't followed baseball for too long. I've followed it since 1997. Baseball is a long season and April-May form does not decide who's the best. What you've said is equivalent to saying that Mark Texeira is a HORRIBLE batter. Every year he starts poorly. His numbers are always low in April. But not one baseball expert will have him outside their overall top ten because he is ... more still awesome when he comes good. CC usually has a slow April too and yet he has 5 wins already. Orioles started well last year and even better this year. They arguably have had the best starting rotation in baseball after Texas (in April). But would anyone seriously rank any of their pitchers above the best? Knowing the best in baseball is based on trends and career performance, not current form. Your list will be obsolete come the All-Star break. The Best pitcher in baseball (active players) is Roy Halladay. There is no contest there. And you haven't even named him. Geez. Darvish cannot even be mentioned in the list of the best this early. Being a good pitcher requires you to have a dominant record against teams that you've faced repeatedly. If they know your stuff and still can't beat you, then that makes you great. That's why Halladay, Verlander and CC are the best. So is Cliff Lee. Gosh, You didn't even name Verlander!!! |

| | Dwade3 and TheProfessional asked me to comment about CC Sabathia regarding my comments from O’s/Yankees on Tuesday. First, we need to understand that I’m responding to this season. CC is still great value for a team as he is very good and can eat up innings which helps. However, as I see it. The best pitcher in the majors is Strasburg but he is innings limited this year which... more could prove to be a problem as we get to August and definitely September. Thus, I would put Kershaw slightly ahead for the season. Right now, I would put the following pitchers ahead of CC: Strasburg Kershaw Gio Gonzalez Anibel Sanchez Yu Darvish So that’s mostly NL pitchers. As far as the AL goes the following are pitching better imo: Darvish (mentioned above) Lowe Peavy And I would definitely Price and maybe Shields over CC. Not sure about CJ Wilson as the Angels are in such disarray; and, I’ll mention though in the NL Beachy, Buerhle, Zambrano, and Cliff Lee. However, all of them have baggage, injuries, etc. So at best in both leagues I don’t see CC being better than 7th and in the AL he could be considered a top 5 overall but if we use just this years stats I would say 4th at best behind Darvish and Price and maybe Shields and Wilson and the fact that Lowe and Peavy are having better years at the moment so he could be as low as 7th but most would still probably consider him Top 5 in the AL. So as I said he is not Top 5 in ML but maybe in the AL

| | NRL previews by AAP:
FRIDAY, May 18
Wests Tigers v Warriors at Leichhardt Oval 7.45pm
Head to Head: Tigers 10 Warriors 10
Last clash: Semi-final 2011 - Warriors 22 bt Tigers 20 at Allianz Stadium
Tab Sportsbet: Tigers $1.91 Warriors $1.91
FootyTAB: Warriors +2.5
The Tigers have won their past three matches, but have looked far from convincing and coac... more h Tim Sheens has once again opted to play Benji Marshall at halfback with Test centre Chris Lawrence filling in at five-eighth in an attempt to fire-up his attack. However, the hosts will be without skipper Robbie Farah, who's on NSW duty with Tom Humble switch to hooker. Warriors' coach Brian McClennan has named Glen Fisiiahi at fullback after a stunning run of form in reserve grade that's produced 18 tries in eight games.
Key: Young Warriors' centre Konrad Hurrell ran riot against the Sydney Roosters last week and his pace and power will cause no end of problems for the Tigers, who are still smarting from last year's last-gasp semi-final loss to Friday's opponents.
Tip: Warriors
SATURDAY, May 19
North Queensland Cowboys v Penrith Panthers at Dairy Farmers Stadium 7.30pm
Head to Head: Cowboys 11 Panthers 17
Last clash: Round 21 2011 - Cowboys 30 bt Panthers 18 at Dairy Farmers Stadium
Tab Sportsbet: Cowboys $1.55 Panthers $2.50
FootyTAB: Panthers +4.5
The Panthers head to Townsville boosted by a golden-point win over St George Illawarra on Monday to face a Cowboys side shorn of four of their stars due to State of Origin commitments. Johnathan Thurston, Brent Tate, Matt Scott and James Tamou are all missing for the Cowboys. The Panthers are without skipper Luke Lewis, but will fancy their chances of a first win in Townsville since 2009. The Cowboys have won three of their past four fixtures, but how they cope without Thurston and co will decide the outcome of this game.
Key: Little Lachlan Coote has been a bright light in a fairly dire season for the Panthers. The speedy fullback kicked the winning field goal against the Dragons on Monday, and his battle with opposite No.1 Matt Bowen should give this game some box office appeal.
Tip: Cowboys
SUNDAY, May 20
Manly Sea Eagles v Sydney Roosters at Brookvale Oval 2.00pm
Head to Head: Sea Eagles 77 Roosters 39 drawn 2
Last clash: Round 22 2011 - Sea Eagles 36 bt Roosters 8 at Brookvale Oval
Tab Sportsbet: Sea Eagles $1.50 Roosters $2.65
FootyTAB: Roosters +6.5
Manly welcome back Kieran Foran after a five-week lay-off and he'll play for the first time since signing a new contract with the club. However, the Sea Eagles are depleted by injuries and NSW call-ups with Tony Williams, Jamie Buhrer, and Brett and Glenn Stewart all out. Winger David Williams is doubtful due to a hamstring injury. Daniel Mortimer starts at halfback for the Roosters for the first time with Mitchell Pearce on Origin duty.
Key: Mortimer's star fell spectacularly following his fairytale season in 2009 with Parramatta when he reached the grand final. After a spell in reserve grade, he'll be desperate to show the Roosters he's still good enough to be playing regularly in the NRL.
Tip: Sea Eagles
St George-Illawarra Dragons v South Sydney Rabbitohs at Oki Jubilee Stadium 3.00pm
Head to Head: Dragons 14 Souths 4 drawn 2
Last clash: Round 21 2011 - Souths 34 bt Dragons 24 at WIN Stadium
Tab Sportsbet: Dragons $1.91 Souths $1.91
FootyTAB: Souths +2.5
The Dragons have been pitiful in the manner they have started their past two games, and defeat to a poor Penrith side last Monday was a new low for a team that have struggled to match their good early-season form. Jamie Soward returns from a thigh strain but the loss of prop Michael Weyman for the season to injury is a huge blow, with Trent Merrin and Ben Creagh also missing due to NSW commitments. The hosts will be relieved to face a Souths team who'll be without the in-form Greg Inglis and David Taylor. However, they'll face a new challenge in exciting young winger Justin Hunt, who's making his NRL debut.
Key: Adam Reynolds is growing in confidence each week as Souths' halfback and dispelled any notions that the Rabbitohs needed to splash out on a big-name replacement for Chris Sandow.
Tip: Dragons
MONDAY, May 21
Canterbury Bulldogs v Cronulla Sharks at ANZ Stadium 7.00pm
Head to Head: Bulldogs 51 Sharks 30 drawn 2
Last clash: Round 23 2011 - Bulldogs 19 bt Sharks 12 at Toyota Stadium
Tab Sportsbet: Bulldogs $1.48 Sharks $2.70
FootyTAB: Sharks +4.5
The Sharks proved they're the real deal with a gutsy 12-10 win over Melbourne last week, to inflict the first defeat of the year on the Storm despite the absence of the injured Paul Gallen. This week, they must defeat Canterbury without not only Gallen, but Todd Carney. The Bulldogs will have to make do without in-form centre Josh Morris and hand a club debut to experienced Luke MacDougall. Des Hasler's side have been hot and cold this year but will fancy their chances against the Sharks minus their two biggest names.
Key: Chad Townsend will deputise for Todd Carney and the junior Kangaroos skipper has big shoes to fill. He showed flashes of his potential last year, and gets the chance to put himself in the spotlight at ANZ Stadium.
Tip: Bulldogs

| | Super 15 previews from AAP:
FRIDAY, May 18
Hurricanes v Brumbies at Westpac Stadium 5.35pm
Head to Head: Played 17, Brumbies 9, Hurricanes 8.
In Wellington: Played 7, Hurricanes 4, Brumbies 3.
Last clash: Round 8, April 9, 2011 - Brumbies 17 bt Hurricanes 16 at Canberra Stadium, Canberra.
The scoreboard should be kept ticking over in this enticing tussle. ... more Hurricanes playmaker Beauden Barrett earned a first All Blacks squad call-up this week but finds himself on the bench as his side manages the 20-year-old's workload. Samoan international Tusi Pisi is his replacement after overcoming a calf strain. The visitors also have a new No.10 following the season-ending injury to Christian Lealiifano. Zack Holmes will make his run-on debut in the Brumbies hot seat. Ian Prior has also replaced the in-form Nic White in the No.9 jumper as they look to break a losing streak in Wellington that goes back to 2003.
Tab Sportsbet: Hurricanes $1.45 Brumbies $2.65
Tip: Hurricanes by 6 points
SATURDAY, May 19
Highlanders v Bulls at Forsyth Barr Stadium, Dunedin 3.30pm
Head to Head: Played 16 - Highlanders 10, Bulls 5, Drawn 1
In Dunedin: Played 4, Highlanders 3, Bulls 1.
Last clash: Round 3, March 5, 2011 - Highlanders 35 bt Bulls 28 at Loftus Versfeld, Pretoria.
After taking the scalps of the Rebels and NSW, can the Bulls make it three from three? The Highlanders were overrun by the Hurricanes and need a win to keep in touch with the NZ top two. Hit by injuries, they looked a little travel weary and will need to cut their error count, particularly with Test super boot Morne Steyne ready to take aim. It's the Bulls playmaker's 100th Super Rugby match. Flanker Dewald Potgieter and experienced midfielder Wynand Olivier and prop Dean Greyling are back in the starting side.
Tab Sportsbet: Highlanders $1.87 Bulls $1.87
Tip: Highlanders by 1 point
Crusaders v Blues at Christchurch Stadium, Christchurch at 5.35pm
Head to Head: Played 20, Crusaders 11, Blues 9.
In Christchurch: Played 8, Crusaders 5, Blues 3.
Last clash: Round 1, February 24, 2012 - Crusaders 19 bt Blues 18 at Eden Park, Auckland.
The Crusaders looked like they'd lost their mojo and their attack was impotent in their shock loss to the Rebels. They need their star-studded backline to fire, having only chalked up 23 tries this season compared to 40 at the same time in 2011. Expect the Crusaders to go all out, aiming for a bonus-point win to keep clear of the Highlanders. The Blues lifted themselves off the bottom of the ladder with their second win of the season, against the lowly Lions. But with Dan Carter back at No.10 for an injured Tom Taylor, the home side should have too much class.
Tab Sportsbet: Crusaders $1.20 Blues $4.20
Tip: Crusaders by 13 points
Reds v Lions at Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane at 7.40pm
Head to Head: Played 16, Reds 12, Lions 3, Drawn 1
In Brisbane: Played 7, Reds 5, Lions 2
Last clash: Round 7, April 2, 2011: Reds 30 bt Lions 25 in Johannesburg
Quade Cooper makes his long-awaited return from his knee reconstruction to ensure Suncorp Stadium will again have a 30,000-plus crowd to cheer the Reds. Cooper hasn't played since his disappointing World Cup campaign but is confident he can reproduce the skills which mesmerised opponents last Super Rugby season. The defending champions are back on a roll following their 42-27 comeback win over the Chiefs and the return of all their injured stars. Saia Faingaa and Greg Holmes come in to start in the front row while Ben Lucas moves from No.10 to fullback. The last-placed Lions were again ordinary against the Blues and must produce a complete 180 to be any chance.
Tab Sportsbet: Reds $1.07 Lions $8.00
Tip: Reds by 18 points
SUNDAY, May 20
Cheetahs v Sharks at Free State Rugby Stadium, Bloemfontein at 1.05am
Head to Head: Played 8, Cheetahs 4, Sharks 4.
In Bloemfontein: Played 4, Cheetahs 2, Sharks 2.
Last clash: Round 16, June 4, 2011 - Sharks 23 bt Cheetahs 18 at Free State Rugby Stadium, Bloemfontein.
The Sharks thumped the Force 53-11 last round while the Cheetahs gave the Stormers a scare and should pose more of a challenge than their 11th-placed ladder position suggests. Look out for Sharks winger Lwazi Mvovo who delivered two length-of-the-field touchdowns among their seven-try haul while prop Tendai Mtawarira delivered a man-of-the-match performance. The Cheetahs at home should put up more of a defensive contest than the Force and will take confidence from pushing the Stormers at Newlands before falling short by two points. Sharks should have too much strike-power.
Tab Sportsbet: Sharks $1.68 Cheetahs $2.10
Tip: Sharks by 6 points
Stormers v Waratahs at Newlands Stadium, Cape Town at 3.10am
Head to Head: Played 15, Stormers 8, Waratahs 6, Drawn 1
In Cape Town: Played 8, Stormers 4, Waratahs 3, Drawn 1.
Last clash: Semi-final, May 22, 2010 - Stormers 25 bt Waratahs 6 at Newlands, Cape Town
The Waratahs set off to South Africa hoping a little team bonding can breathe some life into their ailing season. But it's a tough ask to beat the Stormers at Newlands, where they haven't lost this season. Exciting fullback Bernard Foley is back in the squad to give them some spark while Brendan McKibbin returns to halfback. Wycliff Palu is on the bench with Dave Dennis playing at No.8 while Sitaleki Timani will also start at lock. Doubts remain over Test hooker Tatafu Poloto-Nau (head knock) with a decision set to be delayed until match eve. The Stormers are still in the search for a No.8 after Nizaam Carr became the fourth back-rower they've lost this season.
Tab Sportsbet: Stormers $1.30 Waratahs $3.30
Tip: Stormers by 13 points
Western Force v Rebels at nib Stadium, Perth at 4.35pm
Head to Head: Played 3 Rebels 2 Force 1
In Perth: Played 1 Force 0 Rebels 1
Last clash: Round 5, March 23, 2012 - Rebels 30 bt Force 29 at AAMI Park, Melbourne.
This match has been described as the battle of the Australian wooden-spooners, although the Rebels looked anything but in their stunning upset win over the Crusaders. These teams always have tight battles - only five points separates them over three clashes. While the Rebels won big, the Force were mauled 53-11 by the Sharks last round, let down by their defence and discipline. Phil Blake has made wholesale changes and will start youngster Ben Seymour at five-eighth with Dave Harvey moving to fullback. Rebels half Nick Phipps has found some much-needed form and has struck up a dangerous combination with Kurtley Beale. Will be a tough breakdown battle with Michael Lipman taking on Force master David Pocock.
Tab Sportsbet: Force $1.87 Rebels $1.87
Tip: Rebels by 5
