| | Any recent fight looks to have gone from the Sharks. Yes they put in plenty early vs the Warriors but without luck and rulings were found wanting for wind 2nd half. That’s 6 straight losses with the only glimmer of hope being the Cowboys loss of Thurston which may keep the ‘teaspoon’ fight tight.
The ‘top rated’ Dragons dented the Roosters claims stopping the latter’s 5 stre... ak. Sydney couldn’t get the ball despite another big one from Minichiello. After being forced to man up for most of it they fell to the D’s ‘Zaire’ number, left gasping for air with a ¼ left. It may serve them well and they should be able to find a plan sufficient for this.

| | After a minor resurgence Essendon are gone, done 70 plus by the Blues. They lost Davey and Winderlich but got out-thought, hassled at the contest, kicked poorly, left plenty of holes and couldn’t get much going, albeit kicking 1 that got wrongly called. Questions will be asked now particularly re spirit and commitment.
Its nigh on impossible to envisage a turnaround at the MCG. The Pi... es will be keen to further tune their finals bound line up. They laid out a season best vs the Cats winning every area on the back of high levels from Didak, Swan and Pendlebery. The key point ? The number of shots on and the run to the wire. They played it like 1st minute right to the buzzer despite the late margin, best exampled by the relentless Thomas.

Despite the efforts of Campese and Crocker the ‘Greens’ looked overawed last week visiting Storm. They got severely pressured to rushed handling and subsequent infringements and turnovers had them defending for plenty of it. They’re another clinging to faint hopes for the 8, but will need to find a start similar to that they put on the Knights a couple back.
Going for them is Canbe... rra at night and that although the Panthers stopped a 3 loss streak last week, they took a long time to do it at home against the lowly ranked Cowboys. Gordon was the difference but they found some pattern and unity the last 20. If that’s the win that can return their mid season black line defence which got them 10 from 12 then you’d favour them narrowly.

| | | That’s 5 straight for the Chooks after they put nearly 50 on the Eels at Parramatta. Benefited by Pearce’s return and dictated by Carney it was all field impressive. They closed Hayne as good as you can at the moment and their abrasive defence had the Eels going in all directions. A mixture of new and not so new is propelling spirit evident from the commitment of Anasta, Linnett, Aubusson, Myl... es, Graham and co. The quality of Carney’s variation and instinct will be revealed here.
There are few better planned defences than the Dragons. Sure there are queries over recent outings but they simply looked to leave it a little late and didn’t get the bounce against a quality Broncos effort last week. We get the feeling they’re yet to uncover their main attack plays. We might see a little here middle and wide but more likely similar to last week.

| | | The Dogs remain a faint chance for the 8 if they go 5 straight from here. They put a hugely committed defence on Souths 1st half last week and got rewarded as not for the first time the former looked to run out of ping. Pattern and Kimmorley found space and for a change the Bulldogs got some decent running going to get it on the back of Goodwin’s goal kicking. If they contain the Knights wide ru... nners they can go again but it wont come easy up there.
If the latter bring anything like last week’s pace which buried the Eagles the home ad might be enough. Uate bagged 3 combining brilliantly with Mullen and Gidley was exceptional again all field and in front of goal. They closed an attempted Manly revival 2nd half and that defence would give them some confidence while they too remain a hope given 4 from 5.

| | Just as the Crows resurgence (4-0 late June/July) hits the wall they meet the Dogs on a roll and improving by game. Despite closing Reiwoldt the former couldn’t find enough all field to contain the Tigers. Thompson won plenty in the middle but as they looked for options sub standard kicking hurt them. They’re another who need them all from here and are on a short straw.
The Bulldogs o... utplayed North for most of it last week. Once Boyd and co had drained them they opened up final quarter, Hall finishing with 7 and Giransiracusa 5. It was something of a procession late North being bowled for pace on the ground. Anything like that quarter would get this even in Adelaide.

| | The Tigers set themselves nicely for this battle between the youthful improvers of this season’s league by stunning the Crows with a quality kicking 3rd quarter last week. Once the rain came they dug in the 4th with all of Deledio, Newman, Tuck and Cousins playing parts. In fact they posted 13 scorers and that’s 6 from the last 9.
Even so the Demons may come hungrier. They remain a sn... iff at the 8. They’d need them all but don’t meet a top 3. After Jamar and Sylvia won the contest, they banked the Lions poor handling and discipline to get 30 clear in the 3rd. The spirit’s good. The youth is rising on the back of Green and co, and they don’t want for a reason here.
After saying all of that i think Richmond is a huge chance here & im happy to take them.
